TUCSON, Ariz.-The 2003-04 University of Arizona Women's Golf schedule was announced on August 18, 2003. The nine-member squad will compete in 12 events against some of the best competition in the nation.
The women will compete in five events during the fall season. Arizona starts at the NCAA Fall Preview at Auburn University on Sept. 12-14, which will also host the 2004 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.
The cats next travel to Seattle for the Washington Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington, on Oct. 6-8 and the Stanford/Pepsi Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif., on Oct. 17-19.
The spring 2004 season kicks off in early February at the Regional Challenge, taking place in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif. Arizona hosts the Wildcat Invitational at its home course, Arizona National, on Feb. 23-25. Arizona stays in state to compete in the ASU Invitational in Tempe in early April before competing in the Pac-10 Championships to be held at the Saticoy Country Club in Somis, Calif. on April 19-21.
U of A enters the 2003-04 season with an outstanding squad highlighted by last year's Pac-10 Freshman of the Year and Golfer of the Year, Erica Blasberg. Blasberg, who tied for third place at the 2003 NCAA Championships, competed this summer in the U.S. Women's Amateur and advanced to the quarterfinals. In addition to Blasberg, the Wildcats also return last year's NCAA Fall Preview winner junior Miriam Kraschinski, junior Mar Garcia, sophomore Cassandra Kirkland who posted a 75.26 stroke average in her freshman season with the Wildcats, and NGCA All-American Scholar sophomore Whitney Welch.
Coach Greg Allen moves into his fourth season with the University of Arizona with only one new player, sophomore Alejandra Martin.
