NCAA Softball Championships - Tucson Regional ?- May 18, 2007

Game 1 ?- Mississippi State 7, Pacific 1

Post-Game Quotes

Pacific Coach Brian Kolzeit

Opening Statement:

"We obviously didn’t do a good job scoring this game. We got put into a deep hole that we just couldn’t come out of.”

“We didn’t get any hits with runners on base and come this point in the year it is really hard to come back, especially when we are in that deep of a hole.”

Pacific Centerfielder Gina Carbonatto

“I think (Kelli Miller) pitches very similar to what we have seen all season. I don’t think that she overpowered us at all but we just couldn’t get any of our runners to string anything together.”

On possibly playing two day games tomorrow:

"I don’t think the heat is going to kill us. This is what we play for and we are going to take one game at a time. Right now I’m only thinking about the next one.”

Mississippi State Coach Jay Miller

Opening Statement:

“I thought Kelli (Miller) came out and did a nice job on the mound. We got the big swing (third inning grand slam) from Hayle (Guess) to put us ahead. It’s easier to play with a lead like that. Overall, I thought we did a nice job offensively, defensively and on the mound.”

On the possibility of facing Arizona tomorrow if the Wildcats win Game 2:

“We’ve played some teams in our conference similar to them. Alabama, Tennessee have similar quick kids to what they have. I think it will be a familiar situation to what our team has been in before.”

MSU Centerfielder Hayle Guess

On if she remembers having a seven-RBI day at the plate:

“I have had some good games, but this is by far one of the best.”

“I have to give my teammates credit for getting on base in front of me.”

On scoring first and claiming a comfortable lead:

“It takes a lot of pressure off of the team. If the pitcher can be relaxed and everyone else is relaxed, it makes it easier. This was a big win for us.”
