Arizona Swimming FInishes Fifth After Day One of Pac-10 Championships

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of Arizona Swimmers sit in fifth place with 91 points after the first day of the 2003 Pac-10 Championships. California currently leads with a score of 228 pts. while the Stanford Cardinal reside in second place with 216 pts. Rounding out the top five is USC and Arizona State with scores of 173 and 132, respectively. Last weekend's diving scores have already been factored in to the scores posted on Thursday.

Elsewhere, freshman Dave Rollins placed tenth in the 200y IM (1:48.05) in his Pac-10 debut. Senior Jeff Dash followed behind Rollins in 13th when he touched the wall in 1:50.34.

Sophomore Chad Ainsworth finished 14th in the 500y free final when he swam the event in the time of 4:29.32

Arizona had three men place in the Top 20 in Thursday night's 50y free final. Junior Eric la Fleur dictated the pace with a 14th place finish (20.44), one spot behind was junior transfer Luis Rojas (20.47), and freshman Lyndon Ferns rounded out the trio when he completed the race in a time of 20.54.

Arizona resumes competition Friday morning from Long Beach, Calif. with preliminaries kicking off things at 11 am, finals conclude the evening at 6 pm.
