Sophomore midfielder KARINA CAMACHO was recognized for her play last week by being named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week for the week of Sept. 23rd.
Camacho's efforts last weekend helped the Cats improve to a 6-2-0 record, 4-0 at home.
Her goal in Friday night's match against Michigan brought this season's first overtime win. On Sunday against Cal State Northridge, Camacho's ball movement and defense kept the game alive and paved the way for freshman forward RENAE CUELLAR. Cuellar netted the game winning goal in the match's 105th minute.
The Cienega High School graduate and now nursing major definitely has the home field advantage. "I love it," said the Tucson native, "it's where I grew up."
Camacho made her presence felt last season earning Pac 10 All-freshman team, while ranking second on the team with three assists, and third on the team in goals with two. Trying to take something from all of her veteran teammates, Camacho pays special attention to, "Savanah Levake's consistency and Chelsea McIntyre's leadership."
Comparing this season to last, Camacho notes the "great team ball." "Last season we had a group of talented individuals but this year we're playing together."
Going into this weekend "the team is really confident," said Camacho, "we worked hard this week." The Wildcats hosts Long Beach State at 7 p.m. on Friday and UC Santa Barbara at 5 p.m. on Sunday. Both games are at Mulcahy Stadium.
