TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in sixth place Tuesday at the Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch in San Antonio, Texas.

Arizona battled high winds that swept through Texas Tuesday - sustained winds near 30 miles per hour with gusts nearing 40 - and posted a 311 (+23) total over the final round en route to a 16-over 880 finish, which was good for sixth place in the field of 15.

All told, teams were an average of 22 stokes above par during the final round.

New Mexico won the 54-hole event with a three-under 861 tally, eight shots ahead of Texas A&M. North Texas (869), Texas State (870) and Baylor (872) rounded out the top-five places.

Rice's Jeff Wibawa captured individual medalist honors, as his final round 72 (E) moved him from fifth to first over the final 18 holes. His 208 (-7) total was led the 84-man field by a stroke.

Arizona sophomore Erik Oja earned his second top-10 finish of the season with a tie for seventh place. The Sandviken, Sweden, native's even-par 216 was his third career top-10 effort.

Junior Juan Pablo Hernandez posted a tie for 12th place after carding a two-over 218 total. His final-round 76 was Arizona's low round of the day. Hernandez has a pair of top-10 and a top-20 finish in three starts this fall.

Trent Redfern, who competed as an individual, tied for 23rd place at four-over 220. It was Redfern's low tournament total of the season. Sophomore Chris Capo tied for 31st place at six-over 222.

Freshmen Tucker Wadkins and Brenden Redfern tied for 57th and 70th places, respectively. Wadkins carded a 12-over 228 total, while Redfern finished at 16-over 232.

The Lone Star Invitational at Briggs Ranch was contested at Briggs Ranch Golf Course, a par-72, 7,253-yard layout.

Arizona will next be in action on Nov. 6-8 at the Gifford Collegiate Championship in San Martin, Calif.
