ST. GEORGE, Utah ?- The Arizona women’s golf team finished in a tie for fourth place, highlighted by the excellent play from junior Alison Walshe, who shot her way to her third individual victory.  The Wildcats carded a 301 (+13) in the final round on Wednesday to bring their three round total to 911 (+47).  BYU won the tournament after finishing 16 strokes ahead of their closest competition.

Walshe claimed the individual victory after carding a five-under par 67 in the final round, matching her season low.  The Westford, Mass., native finished with a total score of 214 (-2), two strokes ahead of Stephanie Sherlock from the University of Denver.

“Alison played really well, she had seven birdies and only two bogies during that last round,” Head Coach Greg Allen said.  “This was a good win for her and hopefully this will get her back in the hunt for player of the year.”

Sophomore Adriana Zwanck slipped into a tie for 18th place on Wednesday, with a total of 227 (+11) after 54 holes of play.

Junior Mary Jacobs jumped five places to finish the tournament in a tie for 25th place after carding a four-over par 76 during the final round.  The Godfrey, Ill., product finished four strokes behind Zwanck with a total score of 231 (+15).

“We just did not play well,” said Allen.  “I think we were mentally exhausted, but I am proud of the effort that the girls showed.  They have great chemistry as a team and are getting along so well.  I feel good about this team heading into the post-season.”

Sophomore Amanda Wilson tied for 52nd place with a tournament total of 239 (+23).

Freshman Brittany Benvenuto carded a 255 (+39) through three rounds to finish in 75th place.

“I just think that coming from ASU and then playing here right after was maybe too much,” Allen explained.  “It was nice to see that golf course though, because we will back here for the West regionals.  I feel better about the course now after seeing and playing it.”
