PALO ALTO, Calif. ?- Right-hander Preston Guilmet struck out a career-high 15 hitters over nine innings and the Arizona offense rapped out eight extra-base hits, as the No. 12 Wildcats (29-6, 7-0 Pac-10) extended their winning streak to 15-straight games with an 8-1 win over Stanford (14-16, 0-7 Pac-10) at Sunken Diamond in Palo Alto, Calif., on Friday.

Guilmet, who has gone nine innings in each of his last four starts, improved to 7-0 while lowering his Pac-10-best ERA to 1.58 in his third complete game of the season. He allowed just the one run, on a solo homer in the second, and five hits, while walking only one. He struck out the side in four of his nine innings of work to help UA improve to 10-0 in games he has started this season.

Offensively T.J. Steele led a big night at the plate for the Cats, finishing 3 for 5 with four RBI, a double, his third home run of the year and two runs scored. C.J. Ziegler hit his team-leading eighth homer of the year and two doubles to go 3 for 5 on night. He added three RBI and a run scored.

Brad Glenn, who finished 2 for 5, hit his 13th double of the season, and Colt Sedbrook chipped in with three hits and a pair of runs scored.

The Wildcats jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second on Steele’s solo homer to right, but the Cardinal answered back with a solo blast Brian Juhl in the home half of the frame to tie the game at 1-1.

Steele added to his tally with a two-run double in the fourth to make it 3-1 Arizona, before coming around to score on Dwight Childs’ triple two batters later to stake the Cats to a three-run edge.

Arizona tacked on a single run in the fifth on a Ziegler double and another in the seventh on Steele’s RBI-single. Ziegler capped off the scoring with a two-run homer in the ninth to make it 8-1 Cats.

Arizona and Stanford will meet up for game two of the three-game series on Saturday at 1 p.m. Left-hander Brad Mills (7-2) is the scheduled starter for the Wildcats
