TUCSON, Ariz. ?- Arizona women’s golfer Whitney Welch shot a 73(+3) in the first day of the United States Women’s Amateur in Erie, Pa. at the Kahkwa Golf Course.


The native of Las Vegas will need to continue to play well in the second round of stroke play to secure a position in the 64-individuals matchplay, which will begin on Wednesday.


The junior-to-be averaged an 80.37 stroke average last season. Welch’s best finish came at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational where she shot a 223 (+7) to finish tied in seventh. She additionally the season shot a career low round of 221 (+5) at the Pepsi-Stanford Invitational.
