TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Mark Lyons has been named one of 20 watch list finalists for the 2013 Bob Cousy Award, which was announced Thursday by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

A 6-foot-1, 200-pound senior from Schenectady, N.Y., Lyons is averaging 14.5 points, 1.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game in 15 starts this season. He's scored in double figures 11 times and seven times this year has passed out four or more assists, including a season-high seven against Oral Roberts on Dec. 18.

He ranks among the Pac-12 Conference leaders in scoring (14.5 ppg/12th), free throw percentage (.891/3rd), assists (3.2 apg/ninth), three-point field goals per game (1.9/4th) and assist:turnover ratio (1.1:1/11th). Over the last seven games, Lyons is averaging 15.7 points and 4.0 assists per game.

Arizona opened the season with 14 consecutive victories, the best start for the program since 1931-32.

This list of 20 will be narrowed to 10 around Feb. 1 and final five near March 1. A premier selection committee has been appointed by the Hall of Fame to review the final five candidates in contention for the nation's top collegiate point guard award. These Hall of Fame committees are made up of top college basketball personnel including media members, head coaches, sports information directors and Hall of Famers.

Now in its 10th year, the winner of the 2013 Bob Cousy Award will be presented at the Hall of Fame's Class Announcement on April 8 in Atlanta as part of the NCAA Final Four weekend.

The fourth-ranked Wildcats are next in action on Saturday, Jan. 12, at Oregon State. Tip-off is scheduled for 5 p.m. PST and can be seen on ESPNU.
