PALO ALTO, Calif. -- The No. 14 Arizona volleyball team (8-3, 0-1) was swept by No. 12 Stanford in both teams' Pacific-10 opener this evening. The Wildcats were held to just 39 kills and a season-low .117 hitting percentage.
Arizona was led by junior Kim Glass, playing in her first match of the season. She finished with team highs of 10 kills and four blocks, and also added seven digs. Junior Jennifer Abernathy notched eight kills, seven digs and three service aces. Setter Stephanie Butkus finished with 28 assists, while libero Kelli Mulvany tallied a team-high nine digs.
"It was the first time we played as a team (with Kim) and it was obvious," Head Coach David Rubio said. "We beat ourselves tonight. We didn't compete, we were completely out of sync and we were a step slow. We'll see if we can regroup for tomorrow night."
