TUCSON -Senior Margarita Ramos has advanced to the NCAA Women's Golf Championships, May 22-26, in Franklin, Tenn., hosted by Vanderbilt University. As a squad, the University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf team finished ninth at the NCAA East Regional Championships and will not advance to the NCAA Championships.
"Margarita had a very impressive final round at the regional today," head coach Laura Ianellosaid. "She shot six-under par for her final 10 holes today and was determined to qualify for the national championships. She showed confidence and poise all week and is a true Arizona Wildcat success story. It's sad that her teammates will not be joining her in Nashville but she will represent them well."
Ramos, ranked No.85, won a one-hole playoff to advance to the NCAA Championships as an individual. She paced Arizona with a tied for 10th place finish for the tournament. Shooting rounds of 75, 73 and 70, she carded a score of 218 (+2). No. 19 freshman Manon Gidali finished tied for 14th. She collected rounds of 75, 74 and 71 for a total of 220 (+4). No. 88 senior Isabelle Boineau finished tied for 46th. She totaled 225 (+9) with rounds of 75 on all three days. Senior Nikki Koller was tied for 65th with her score of 228 (+12) and rounds of 77, 74 and 77. Junior Kyndall Ardoin rounded out the Arizona five, finishing in 113th place. She shot rounds of 82, 79 and 82 for a score of 243 (+27).
No. 25 South Carolina won the team race with an 873 (+9). No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 32 Texas shared a tie for second with scores of 878 (+14). No. 18 Arizona finished in ninth place, one spot short of advancing, with a score of 891 (+27), including rounds of 302, 296 and 293. No. 37 Katerina Ruzickova won the individual race with a total of 213 (-3). She fired rounds of 67, 73 and 73.
The NCAA Championships will be held May 22-26 in Franklin, Tenn.
