TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona men's golf team finished in eighth place Friday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Kahuka, Hawaii.

Arizona carded a two-under 286 tally Friday to post the eighth-place effort with a three-round total of 867 (+3). The Wildcats were a combined five-under par as a team over the last 36 holes, but could only move up one spot after the first day in the 17-team field. California captured the team title by six strokes with a 30-under 834 total.

Virginia's Ben Kohles won a three-man, two-hole playoff for individual medalist honors, defeating California's Max Homa and Texas A&M's John Hurley.

The Wildcats were led by Erik Oja, who shot a final-round 69 (-3), to finish in a tie for 12the place at five-under 211. It was the best tournament finish and low tournament total for the freshman from Sandviken, Sweden. Oja, who carded a career-low 67 on Thursday, was a combined eight strokes under par over the final two rounds.

Senior Jonathan Khan posted a one-under 216 tournament total to finish in a tie for 22nd place. It was the second consecutive under par tournament finish for the Tucson native. Khan was joined in the top 30 by teammate Tarquin MacManus, who shot an even-par 72 Friday to tie for 28th place at 216 (E).

Stefan Cox posted his low round of the event Friday, an even-par 72, to tie for 57th place at 225 (+9), one stroke ahead of John Kostis, who competing as an individual tied for 61st place at 10-over 226. Freshman Tye Beall tied for 79th place with a 15-over total of 231.

The John A. Burns Intercollegiate was contested at the Turtle Bay Resort's Arnold Palmer and George Fazio Courses. The Palmer Course is a par-72, 7,198-yard layout, while the Fazio Course is a par-72, 6,712-yard layout.

The Wildcats will next be in action, March 11-13, at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters in Las Vegas, Nev.
