TUCSON - The Arizona Wildcat football program originally shared in May 2012 plans to introduce a copper helmet design. It was announced on Monday by head coach Rich Rodriguez that the new copper helmets will debut at the Oregon State game on Sat., Sept. 29 - the Copper Game.

Over the years, Arizona football helmets have included a variety of designs using the colors red, white and blue. The Wildcats' newest helmet design boldly highlights the color copper - to pay tribute to the state of Arizona and its great mining history.

"We are going to break out the copper helmet for the Oregon State game", head coach Rich Rodriguez said. "It's not going to replace our school colors but it is a tribute to the mining history in our state. The guys will wear them in practice Wednesday and Thursday to get used to the fit. We will let the seniors pick the jersey and pants combination."

Copper has influenced architectural design on the University of Arizona campus, including its athletic facilities - most notably the ring at the top of the McKale Center and the Lowell-Stevens Football Facility. As the University of Arizona, we embrace the addition of a copper helmet as a special opportunity to pay tribute to the state of Arizona. Copper will not replace the traditional colors of red and blue, and the copper helmet will be worn on a limited basis.

"We look forward to our fans coming out and supporting this exciting football team," Director of Athletics Greg Byrne said. "The Copper Game will be a unique opportunity for our fans and a game against an important Pac-12 opponent where the atmosphere will play another significant role in our home field advantage."

Limited edition Copper Game merchandise, including t-shirts, hats and mini-replica helmets, will be available for purchase starting Thurs, Sept. 27 at the UA Bookstore, McKale Center A-Store and at while supplies last. On Sat., Sept. 29, the UA Bookstore souvenir stands at Arizona Stadium and Fan Fiesta will also carry these items for purchase while supplies last.

A special Copper Game premium giveaway item will be distributed to every ZonaZoo member in attendance at Saturday's game. The giveaways will be distributed as students enter Arizona Stadium. Gates opens for ZonaZoo students at 5 p.m. and members are encouraged to arrive in plenty of time to receive the exclusive giveaway.

The Wildcats return to Arizona Stadium on Sat., Sept. 29 to host the Oregon State Beavers. The game is scheduled for 7 p.m. PT and will air on Pac-12 Networks. Tickets are available at the McKale Center Ticket office, by visiting or by calling 520-621-2287 or 1-800-452-CATS.

Special for the Oregon State game, Family Packs are also available and each ticket includes a voucher for a hot dog, soda and either bag of peanuts or box of popcorn. Seats are in the family sections (F) and are only available online at while supplies last.
