INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) has announced team and individual Scholastic All-America recipients for the 2011-2012 season, including six individual athletes from the Arizona women's gymnastics team.
Student-athletes were recognized for accomplishing a year-long or cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Across each NCAA division, 531 student-athletes were recognized.
In her senior year, Rebecca Cardenas qualified as one of only 60 student athletes to bolster a 4.0 GPA finishing up her Psychology degree. This is Cardenas' second academic accolade, as she is an All-Academic Conference honorable mention for the season.
Aubree Cristello, Barbara Donaldson and Shana Sangston made the Scholastic All-America roster as well. Cristello rounded out her junior year with a 3.75 GPA in Marketing, and Donaldson and Sangston finished up their sophomore years with GPA's of 3.53 in French and Political Science and 3.88 in Family Studies (pre-nursing) respectively.
As a team, the Arizona Women's Gymnastics program ranked 40th overall and fourth highest within the Pac-12 programs. The team averaged a GPA of 3.2665, behind No. 4 Utah (3.6644), No. 23 Stanford (3.4057) and No. 25 Washington (3.3779). Other Pac-12 rankings included No. 52 Oregon State, No. 59 California, No. 61 UCLA and No. 67 Arizona State.
