TUCSON, Ariz. - After hosting an NCAA Baseball Regional for the first time since 1992, the Arizona baseball program is set to host its first-ever NCAA Super Regional this weekend at Hi Corbett Field.
Arizona (41-17) will host St. John's (40-21) in a best-of-three NCAA Super Regional this weekend at the historic venue. The series will begin on Friday at noon and continues on Saturday at noon and Sunday at 1 p.m. (if necessary). All games will be televised live on ESPN2.
The Wildcats cruised through the Tucson Regional, routing Missouri (15-3) in the opener and winning two games against Louisville (16-4 and 16-3). The Red Storm rolled through the Chapel Hill (N.C.) Regional, defeating East Carolina (11-3) and upsetting No. 6 national seed North Carolina twice (5-4 and 9-5) on its home field.
Arizona has won 11 of its last 13 games, including four straight at home. The Red Storm, meanwhile, has won seven consecutive games, including four in a row in the Big East Tournament and all three last weekend at the Chapel Hill Regional.
The Wildcats will make their third Super Regional appearance this weekend, but their first at home. In 2004, Arizona knocked off Long Beach State in three games at the Long Beach (Calif.) Super Regional to advance to the school's 15th all-time College World Series. In 2008, Arizona won the opener at the Coral Gables (Fla.), before dropping the next two games to host Miami to fall one game shy of the College World Series.
Arizona baseball season ticket holders have until Tuesday, June 5, at 3 p.m. to pre-order reserved all-session tickets. All-session reserved tickets are $25 and all-session general admission tickets are $18.
General admission public sales will be available over the phone and in person at the McKale Ticket Office beginning Tuesday, June 5th at 9 a.m. If any reserved seats remain after the season ticket holder window those seats would go on sale to the public online on Tuesday, June 5th at 6 p.m. Single-session tickets will go on sale later in the week. Exact on-sale time and date TBA.
Last weekend, Hi Corbett Field drew a total of 12,578 fans to the three Arizona games during the Tucson Regional. The Friday night crowd of 5,086 was the third-largest for a regional-opening game across the 16 host venues. A total of 98,710 fans have attended 38 home games in 2012, an average of 2,597 per contest.
