Boise, Idaho -

The Arizona Wildcat men’s tennis team dropped their second consecutive match in a 7-0 loss to the Boise State Broncos. The Cats lost a close battle for the doubles point and couldn’t build momentum going into singles play where they were edged on all six courts at Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho.

In doubles play, Arizona fell in all three matches. Finishing first was the team of Sumeet Shinde and Kieren Thompson on court one. The duo was edged, 8-0, by James Meredith and Nathan Sereke. On court three, Mario Urquidi and Andre Vidaller were next to finish on court three. The Wildcat team fought hard against Andrew Bettles and Filip Pogostkin but were ultimately topped, 9-7. Finishing last was the team of Sebastian Ionescu and Giacomo Miccini on court two. They brought their match with Damian Hume and Scott Sears to 7-7 when a tiebreak was entered. The Arizona duo was edged, 7-2.

With the doubles point in favor of the Broncos, the match entered singles play. Arizona dropped four of six matches in straight sets. Finishing first was Urquidi on court three. The sophomore from El Paso, Texas was edged, 6-1, 6-1, by Bettles. On court four, Shinde finished second in his match with Sereke. The freshman from Pune, India dropped the match, 6-2, 6-1. Finishing third was Vidaller on court one. Boise State’s Meredith topped the sophomore from Santos, Brazil, 6-1, 6-3. The match marked the fourth point for the Broncos and clinched the match in their favor.

Forcing a super-tiebreaker was Miccini on court two. The Recanati, Italy native dropped the first set, 6-3, but came back to earn the second set, 6-2, against Hume. The match entered a tiebreaker where Miccini was edged, 10-4. On court five, Thompson took on Pogostkin. Thompson dropped the first set, 6-2, but came back strong in the second set. His efforts weren’t enough and he was topped, 7-5. Finishing last and forcing a third set was Ionescu on court six. The fresman from Braila, Romania dropped the first set, 6-2, to Garrett Patton but came back to clinch the second, 6-2. The match entered a third set where Ionescu was topped, 6-3.

With the loss Arizona falls to 4-10 and Boise State Improves to 13-5.

Arizona will be back in action tomorrow as they take on Idaho at 11 a.m. in Boise.
