TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona women's golfer Erica Blasberg lost 6 and 5 in the quarterfinals of the 2003 United States Women's Amateur Championship Friday afternoon to Paula Creamer at Philadelphia Country Club in Gladwyne, Pa.

Blasberg, a native of Corona, Calif., played a solid round but couldn't overcome the buzz saw that was Paula Creamer. Creamer took control of the match on the fourth hole by starting a run that included four birdies and four pars over the next eight holes to push what was a 1-up lead to 6-up. The match ended two holes later as both players collected pars on Nos. 12 and 13.

The sophomore-to-be lost three consecutive holes to close the front nine and essentially put the match out of reach. Blasberg was just two-over par for her 13 holes played, but couldn't match Creamer's four-under total on the day.

Earlier in the day, Blasberg advanced to the quarterfinals with a 4 and 3 victory over Kailin Downs of Bend, Ore. That victory saw Blasberg string together two birdies and two pars over four consecutive holes (Nos. 5-8) to build a 4-up lead and coast to the 4 and 3 win in the third round of match play.

Philadelphia Country Club, host of the 103rd U.S. Women's Amateur, is a par 71, 6,68-yard layout.
