PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – A day after a 70-point win, the Arizona men’s basketball team got back to work early Sunday afternoon with a practice at the Kendal G.L. Isaacs Gymnasium in Nassau.
Much of the 90-minute workout focused on fundamentals in preparation for UA’s final game of the trip Monday at 5 p.m.
Today’s practice did take on a bit more importance, as it is the final team workout allowed until mid-September. Still, head coach Sean Miller was pleased with his team’s progress to date.
“Absolutely, there was a bit more significance to this practice,” said Miller. “NCAA rules won’t allow us to workout as a team until Sept. 15, so this was an opportunity to get in a good day’s work.”
Regardless of how tomorrow’s game goes, Miller already feels like the trip has already been very beneficial for his team’s preparations for the 2012-13 campaign.
“We’ve had two good practices here. I can’t tell you how much of an advantage it is for us to have taken this trip.”
Notes: Sunday is always a good day to be at a resort like the Atlantis as many of the weekend crowds head home, and for those of us fortunate to stay a bit longer, the resort feels a bit more like your own. Less crowded conditions certainly helped to provide an easy-going atmosphere for all involved. Following today’s workout and prior to tonight’s team dinner, the players had the opportunity to enjoy more beach time and even get out on the jet skis. At least half of the team took the opportunity to hit some open water. Only time will tell if any of the guys have a future in open water racing.
