TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team shot a 12-over-par tally Monday and is in a tie for sixth place at the 2005 Pac-10 Men’s Golf Championships in Walla Walla, Wash.

After opening the day with a one-over 356 in the first round, Arizona’s total ballooned in the second round with an 11-over 366.  The performance gave the Cats a 36-hole total of 722 (+12) and placed the squad in tie for sixth place with Stanford, 15-strokes behind tournament-leader UCLA.  Arizona State (709), California and USC (714), and Washington State (717) rounded out the top five places.

Seniors Nathan Lashley and Kipp Riehle led the Wildcats through the first 36 holes.  Lashley, a native of Scottsbluff, Neb., carded rounds of 68 and 72 en route to a 140 (-2) total, which placed him in a tie for seventh.  Riehle posted a two-round total of 143 (+1), including a one-under 70 in the second round, and finds himself in a tie for 17th place.  Arizona State’s Pat Moore leads the 60-man field with an eight-under 134 tally.

Freshman Travis Esway is tied for 21st place after carding a two-over 144.  Esway’s first-round 68 tied for Arizona’s low round of the day.  Trey Denton and Josh Esler are currently tied for 42nd place after posting six-over 148 totals.

Sophomore Henry Liaw, the defending Pac-10 individual medalist, is tied for 49th place after 36 holes, with an eight-over 150 total.

The 72-hole Pac-10 Men’s Golf Championships continue through Wednesday at Walla Walla Country Club, a par 71, 6,606-yard layout.  The low five scores from each team of six count towards the team total in every round.
