Cats travel to play No. 49 Washington and No. 41 Washington State

Match Data: ?Arizona is on the road again to take on the Washington schools. The Cats will look to pick up their first Pac-10 win this week.

In The Rankings: ? The Cats are unranked for the third consecutive week. Individually, Danielle Steinberg jumped 18 spots to No. 38 in terms of singles players.?

?

Head Coach Vicky Maes: ?Vicky Maes enters her seventh year as the head womenˇ?s tennis coach. One of the greatest players in Arizona women's tennis history, Maes has been at the University of Arizona since 1994. She got her start as a student-athlete, then continued on as a coordinator for the model Life Skills Program and has served as the head coach of the womenˇ?s tennis team since October 2001.? As a student-athlete, Maes was the squad's No. 1 singles and doubles player throughout her entire career. She was named the Pac-10 Conference Player of the Year in 1996, as well as being tabbed a four-time first team All-Pac-10 selection.?? A native of Belgium, Maes has brought great success in her first six seasons at the helm of the program. The Wildcats have recorded a solid record against teams that are continuously ranked among the top in the nation. In addition, Maes led the Wildcats to team and/or individual postseason competition each year, won the 2003 Pac-10 Championships for the first time since 1994, and produced several first team All-Americans and All-Pac-10 players.

Scouting the Huskies: ?Washington is 10 -8 overall and 2-5 in Pac-10 play. They are currently listed at No. 49 in the ITA rankings.

Scouting the Cougars:? ?Washington State is ranked No. 41 this week. Although they have lost their last three matches, the Cougs have impressive wins over Oregon and Boise State.

?

Returnees: ?The Cats will be led in 2008 by their three returning players, Danielle Steinberg, Katie Orletsky and Natalia Toporowska. Their play will be paramount to the success of the team.? Also the new players on the team will look to them for support during competitive matches.

?

Welcoming newcomers: ?The Cats will also depend on a lot of new faces as they will have five newcomers joining the team.? One newbie, freshman Jane Huh, will look to the experience she gained during a busy fall schedule as she battles conference foes

Recapping last year: ?Last year Arizona finished with an overall record of 13-9 and finished ranked No. 42 in the ITA Rankings. In Pac-10 play, the Cats had a 3-10 record.? Individually they were led by sophomore Danielle Steinberg. Steinberg who was ranked as high as No. 34.

Pac-10 Player of the Week: ?Danielle Steinberg was named as the Pac-10 Player of the Week for the week of Feb. 4 -10. She went undefeated over the weekend to garner this award.

?

Last Time Out: ?The?Cats lost both of their matches over the weekend by the score of 6-1.? Versus Cal, Danielle Steinberg notched the point for Arizona. Against Stanford, Arizona was forced to default on court six after only having five players available.

?

Fall Action: ?Arizona competed in six fall events and seemed to find a lot of success in doubles action.? Junior Danielle Steinberg had a record of 5-2 while playing in two events to lead the Cats. Sophomore Natalia Toporowska also had a strong fall showing, going 7-4 in singles and 2-2 in doubles play.

Next Up:? ?Arizona will travel to Los Angeles next weekend to take on the UCLA Bruins and Trojans of USC.
