TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball player Channing Frye was named Pacific-10 Conference Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23, the league announced Monday.
Frye, a 6-foot-10 sophomore center from Phoenix, Ariz., scored 23 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and added four blocked shots in Arizona's 92-72 win at Saturday Arizona State. He connected on 9-of-11 field goal attempts and was a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line in posting his second consecutive double-double and his fourth in the last six games. In the first half alone against the Sun Devils, he hit 6-of-7 field goals and tallied 17 points, five boards and two blocks.
On the season, Frye is averaging 11.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.0 blocks per game while shooting 59.7 percent from the floor. It is the first time Frye has been so honored by the league office and the 58th all-time for the Wildcats.
Arizona is next in action on Thursday, Feb. 27, as the top-ranked Wildcats take on No. 21 California. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. PST and can be seen on nationally on Fox Sports Net.
