Tucson, AZ - The University of Arizona head gymnastics coach Bill Ryden announced Thursday that Laurie-Eve Gagné of Montreal, Quebec Canada has signed a letter of intent to attend and compete for the University. Gagné will begin her attendance in the upcoming fall 2010 semester.
Gagné is a Canadian National Team member with numerous international accolades and has participated in 5 World Cups. Gagné is expected to make an immediate impact on the GymCats lineup in all four events in the 2011 season, but her greatest impression will be on the Uneven Bars, according to Ryden.
“Laurie-Eve has impeccable bars, an event that we struggled with depth-wise this past season,” Ryden said. “Her level of difficulty and clean form should score very well at the university level. We are very excited to have her join our program this fall.”
Her World Cup finishes include a 4th place on the Uneven Bars at the 2010 World Cup Doha in Doha, Q.A.T., 8th place on the Uneven Bars and 4th place on the Balance Beam at the World Cup Osijek in Osijek, C.R.O. in 2009, and a 4th Place finish at the 2009 World Cup in Montreal. In 2009, she also placed 2nd on the Uneven Bars at Elite Canada. She is currently a finalist for the potential gymnasts to represent Canada at the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games in 2010.
Gagné is currently the second new Wildcat to join the team, following Jordan Williams who signed on Friday, November 13.
