Removal leaves 15 players on the Wildcat roster

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- University of Arizona men’s basketball player Matt Babcock will not be eligible to compete during the 2004-05 season, it was announced Friday.

Babcock, a 6-foot-1, 170-pound sophomore guard from Marietta, Ga., did not meet NCAA eligibility requirements for incoming transfers.  He last attended Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Fla., during the 2002-03 season, and played in only one game before suffering a knee injury.

In order to gain full eligibility, Babcock must spend a year in residence at an institution.  He would be able to rejoin the team and be eligible to compete in the fall of 2005.

Babcock’s removal from the roster leaves a total of 10 returning players and five newcomers for the 2004-05 season.  The Wildcats open the schedule on Tuesday, Nov. 16, against San Diego in the first round of the 2004 Cisco Systems Preseason N.I.T.  Tip-off in McKale Center is scheduled for 7 p.m. MST.  The game will be televised on ESPN2.
