OPELIKA, Ala. - Friday's final round action of the NCAA Championship in Opelika, Ala. was postponed due to darkness, after a lightening storms delayed afternoon action. The final round was completed Saturday morning.
The Wildcats shot a 45-over-par 1197 to trail national champion, UCLA by 49 strokes after the bruin's shot 4-under-even-par 1148. Oklahoma State claimed the runner-up position after posting a 1-under-par 1151. Duke landed in third after carding a 7-over-par 1159. California (1172) and Vanderbilt (1180) occupied the fourth and fifth position, respectively.
Individually, sophomore sensation Erica Blasberg finished the season tied for 28th by carding a 294 (+6). This was the second time this season the native of Corona, Calif. finished outside of the top-ten. Blasberg struggled her first day, but bounced back with three excellent rounds, but the three rounds were not good enough to propel her into the top-20.
Sophomore Cassandra Kirkland tied for 49th by shooting 10-over-par 298. Sophomore Alejandra Martin finished tied for 62nd at 13-over-par 301. Sophomore Lani Elston carded a 20-over-par 308 to tie for 93rd. Mar Garcia finished her junior season tied for 109th after shooting 23-over-par 311 for the tournament.
This tournament concludes the 2003-04 women's golf season. Auburn University was the host of the 2004 women's golf championship. The tournament was held at Grand National Lake Course a par-72 course set across 6,215 yards.
