TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona struggled to a 12-over par team score and fell into a tie for 9th place at the 2009 NCAA West Regional Tournament, Friday afternoon at the ASU Karsten Golf Course.
Host Arizona State continues to run away with the tournament as it sits atop the leaderboard at 20-under par. The Wildcats are 12-over for the tournament and are tied with Pac-10-rival California. On the bright side, the team is just six shots out of the top five as TCU sits in 5th place at 6-over.
Sophomore Alejandra Llaneza led Arizona on the day with a 1-over round of 73 and is currently even par for the weekend. Freshman Margarita Ramos shot 75 on Friday and is 3-over par while Isabelle Boineau shot 76 on the par-72, 6,230-yard course and is 2-over for the tournament.
Nikki Koller matched her first round total of 76 to sit 8-over for the event while Amanda Wilson shot 79 on Friday and is 10-over par through 36 holes. Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State holds the overall lead at 9-under par for a two-day total of 135.
Jennifer Song of USC had the low round of the day at 67 to sit four shots off the pace. Two players are one shot off the lead heading into the final round of play.
Arizona will get to tee off early to try and avoid as much of the heat as possible, taking to the first tee with Amanda Wilson leading off at 8:00 a.m.
