TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona associate men's basketball coach Mike Dunlap was named the top head coach in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference history, as part of the league's centennial celebration.

Dunlap won two NCAA Division II national championships (2000, 2002) while at Metropolitan State College. In nine years at the Denver, Colo., school (1998-2006), his teams posted a 248-50 (.832) record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in each of those seasons. Dunlap was a two-time National Association of Basketball Coaches Coach-of-the-Year recipient.

"To be a part of that means your administration and your players were second to none," said Dunlap in a statement released by the RMAC. "It humbles you because your contemporaries are voting on something over a hundred years. I know on one end I'm not deserving, but on the other end I will take it with full compliment."

The RMAC All-Time Men's Basketball Team was selected by representatives from the conference's schools that participate in the sport of men's basketball. Official records for RMAC men's basketball date back to 1972, but it is known that the conference has sponsored the sport of men's basketball since the 1920s. There are no records of RMAC Player of the Year before 1994 or Coach of the Year before 1992.

The RMAC is the fourth oldest conference in the country. As part of the Centennial Celebration, all-time teams are being selected in 19 RMAC sports. The RMAC's Centennial Celebration will take place on July 11, 2009 at the Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.

Arizona (7-2) is next in action on Saturday, Dec. 20, against UNLV in Las Vegas, Nev. Tip-off is scheduled for noon PST and can be seen nationally on the Versus network.
