TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona men's basketball coach Sean Miller today announced that two players have been added to the roster.
Quinton Crawford and Drew Mellon bring the number of active players for the 2011-12 campaign to 16. These two walk-ons will make the majority of their contributions to the program in practice situations. Only 15 players are allowed to be in uniform for conference road games.
Crawford, a 6-foot-1 junior guard from Old Bridge, N.J., joins the program after playing the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons at Middlesex County College in Edison, N.J.
Prior to attending Middlesex C.C., Crawford was a four-year letterwinner at Old Bridge High School for coach Rocky Knowles, earning all-Greater Middlesex Conference Red Division and honorable mention all-area honors as a junior and senior. He earned OBHS Most Outstanding Student-Athlete honors for boys' basketball in 2008.
Mellon, a 6-foot-5 freshman forward from Santa Ana, Calif., garnered two letters in basketball for coach Gary McKnight, posting a 64-5 record over his two varsity seasons. He was the Monarchs' team captain as a senior in 2010-11, helping the squad to a 32-3 record and the California Division I state championship. Mellon was a four-time honor roll student, who averaged 4.2 points and 3.8 rebounds as a senior.
The Wildcats (10-4, 1-0 Pac-12) return to action on Thursday, Jan. 5, at UCLA in the John R. Wooden Classic. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. PST and can be seen nationally on FOX Sports Net.
