TUCSON--Louisville Keola Calderon's three-run double broke up a 1-1 tie and gave the Cardinals (2-6) the runs they needed in a 4-3 victory over No. 14-ranked Notre Dame (1-2) in Saturday action at the Pepsi Arizona Softball Classic.
The Irish scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the inning and had the tying run at second base but runner Jenny Kriech was thrown out at third by rightfielder Calderon after stealing second and trying for the extra base after the catcher's throw got away.
Melissa Jacobo's third home run in as many games gave Louisville a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth.
Notre Dame tied it up in the next at-bat. Megan Ciolli singled, stole second and reached third on the catcher's wide throw to second. She scored on Andria Bledsoe's ground-out RBI.
Louisville concludes play in the tournament Sunday against Auburn. Notre Dame was to play New Mexico State later Saturday afternoon and finishes play against South Florida in the round-robin tourney on Sunday.
