Palo Alto , Calif.-The Arizona gymnastics team had its first road meet this weekend, facing fifth-ranked Stanford.??At a very close margin, the Wildcats fell to the Cardinal with a score of 194.6-194.125.??The Cats are now 2-1 and 0-1 in the Pac-10.

?ˇ?It was a totally different environment. Usually the first road meet is more difficult but we were very solid. We had four solid events instead of just two like last week,ˇ± said head coach Bill Ryden. ˇ?It was a bit of a struggle for us but our goal was to hit routines and we were 22-for-24 with some new people in new positions.ˇ±

The Wildcats opened their first away meet on the floor exercise, scoring a 48.475.? Senior Karin Wurm and Bree Workman lead the team with a score of 9.725, while red shirt sophomore Sarah Specht marked a solid 9.70.

On vault, the UA gymnasts scored a 48.800 team total.? UAˇ?sWorkman took first for the second time this season, tying with Stanfordˇ?s Stephanie Gentry and Danielle Ikoma. Freshmen Colleen Fisher fell closely behind with a 9.775, and junior Alexis Green with a 9.750. Senior Rachelle Silberg and red shirt sophomore Sarah Specht marked solid scores of 9.725.

The bars proved to be a bit more troublesome than usual for the Wildcats, but they ended up posting a respectable 48.325. Wurm turned in a high score for the Wildcats with a 9.775.

On balance beam, the teamˇ?s final rotation of the day, UAˇ?s Danielle Hicks tied for first place with Stanfordˇ?s Allyse Ishino with a score of 9.800, a very impressive feat after recently overcoming an injury from last year.? Alexis Green chipped in a 9.775, while Briana Bergeson notched a solid 9.725.

UAˇ?s Greene won the All-Around for the second time this year with a score of 38.875.

ˇ?We were using this meet as a learning tool and we really got out of it what we wanted to,ˇ± said Ryden.

The teamˇ?s next meet will be on the road again, taking place on Jan. 25 at Oregon State in Corvallis, Ore., at 7 p.m.
