Women's Tennis Players Ousted from NCAA Singles' Tournament

STANFORD, Calif. - UA Freshman Maja Mlakar won her opening round match against Mississippi's Mira Radu on Tuesday, 6-1, 6-3. In the second round, Mlakar failed to win the last two sets against North Carolina's Kate Pinchbeck. She lost the overall match by scores of 6-3, 5-7, 5-7. Mlakar ends the season with a singles record of 23-16.

Teammate Debbie Larocque did not advance past the first round after losing to Stanford's Gabriela Lastra 6-4, 6-1. Larocque completes the 2002 season with a singles record of 22-16.

Mlakar and Larocque will team up for the doubles tournament, which begins on Wednesday, May 22. They will face Manon Kruse and Stacy Varnell of Middle Tennessee in the first round. The match is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. PDT.
