Corvallis, Ore. ?- The University of Arizona women’s volleyball team (10-8, 1-5 Pac-10) used some hot hitting to earn its first Pac-10 win of the season with a three-game sweep of Oregon State (3-12, 0-6 Pac-10) on Thursday night.  Game scores were 30-19, 30-16, and 30-26.

The Wildcats defeated the Beavers for the 20th-consecutive time with a season-high .310 hitting percentage, tallying 52 kills on 116 swings with just 16 errors, while snapping a six-match losing skid.

“It was nice to get a win under our belts and give our team some confidence heading into tomorrow night,” head coach Dave Rubio said.  “I thought Stephanie (Butkus) did a really nice job of spreading the offense around.  Her passing and her defense was terrific.  It was great to see our team play efficiently and disciplined tonight.”

Sophomore Brooke Buringrud led the way with 13 kills, and junior Dominique Lamb, sophomore Randy Goodenough, and freshman Whitney Dosty chipped in with 10 kills apiece.  Lamb also added eight blocks, and senior Stephanie Butkus finished with 46 assists.

Arizona out-hit Oregon State .310 to .069, behind an impressive .429 hitting percentage (22-4-42) in the second game.  UA also registered 12 blocks in the match, as the Wildcats have posted double-digit blocks in 12 of their last 13 matches.

Arizona and Oregon State battled early on in the first game before the Wildcats used an 11-3 scoring run for a 30-19 game-one win.

UA was dominant in the second game, jumping out to a 10-3 lead over the Beavers.  The Wildcats then went on a 13-2 run to take a 28-12 advantage and cruise to a 30-16 win.  In the third game, Arizona wasn’t able to put the Beavers away until late.  With the third game notched at 25-25, Arizona outscored OSU 5-1 down the stretch for the match-clinching win.

Arizona continues its Oregon Trail when the Wildcats next travel to Eugene, Ore., to take on the Oregon Ducks on Friday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m.
