Nick Hundley A Finalist For 2005 Johnny Bench Award

            FULLERTON, Calif. ?- Arizona junior Nick Hundley has been named one of three finalists for the 2005 Johnny Bench Award presented the nation’s top collegiate catcher. Voted on by the Division I baseball coaches, Hundley is joined on the finalist list by USC’s Jeff Clement and Texas’ Taylor Teagarden.


            Currently batting .349 with a team-best 14 home runs, 54 runs scored, 22 doubles and 43 RBI, Hundley has started 55 of Arizona’s 56 games behind the plate this season. No other Arizona catcher has been named a finalist for the award in its eight-year history.


A final vote among the national selection committee will occur during the College World Series. All three finalists and their coaches will be invited to Wichita for the 8th Annual Greater Wichita Sports Banquet on June 29, 2005 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in downtown Wichita. Johnny Bench will present the award to the recipient.
