Cats to Play for Two of Five Championship Matches


SEATTLE, Wash. ?- Arizona senior Kelly Perry and junior Stephanie Balzert will play for the Flight II Doubles championship at the Pac-10 Indoor Championships and sophomore Kasia Jakowlew will compete for the Flight III Singles championship Sunday.


Perry and Balzert defeated Washington’s Saskia Nauenberg and Allison Rainey 8-1 in the semifinal round of the Flight II Doubles bracket.  The Wildcat duo will face Oregon’s Ester Bak and Davina Mendiburu for the championship.  Bak and Mendiburu defeated Arizona’s Camelia Todorova and Jessie Rochefort in the first round of the draw.


In the Flight I Doubles draw, Hollands and fellow senior Maja Mlakar defeated USC’s Diane Matias and Lindsey Nelson 8-5 in the quarterfinal round, before losing to Oregon’s Daria Panova and Dominika Dieskova 8-5 in the semifinals.


Jakowlew defeated Oregon’s Monica Hoz de Vila 1-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4 in the Flight III Singles semifinals to earn match against Oregon’s Jamie Marshall in the championship round.  In the other semifinal match in the draw, Todorova fell to Marshall 6-4, 6-2.


In consolation play, Hollands lost to USC’s Nicole Leimbach 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 and Mlakar lost to UCLA’s Alex McGoodwin 6-3, 6-4 in the quarterfinals of the Flight I Singles Consolation bracket.
