Atlanta, Ga. - The No. 6 Arizona men’s swimming and diving team completed the first day of preliminary competition for the 2006 NCAA Championships this afternoon at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, qualifying nine people in five events for finals action tonight beginning at 7 p.m.
Starting off today’s competition was the 200 free relay of seniors Simon Burnett, Lyndon Ferns, sophomore Albert Subirats and junior Adam Ritter who posted a No. 2 seed for tonight’s finals with a time of 1:17.01.
Senior Tyler DeBerry qualified for the consolation finals of the 500 freestyle, finishing 12th overall with a season best time of 4:18.83.
Ritter set a new school record in the 200 individual medley, finishing second overall with a time of 1:44.15 as senior Dave Rollins also qualified for the championship finals of the race, finishing fifth overall with a time of 1:44.93.
Burnett and Ferns qualified for the championship finals of the 50 freestyle as Burnett finished third with a time of 19.28 and Ferns was sixth with a time of 19.36.
Finishing today’s swimming events was the 400 medley relay of sophomores Nick Thoman, Ivan Barnes, Subirats and freshman Nicolas Nilo, who finished first with a time of 3:07.75.

500 free: DeBerry (consolation)
200 IM: Ritter, Rollins
50 free: Burnett, Ferns
400 medley relay: Thoman, Barnes, Subirats, Nilo
