Liaw ties for ninth place individually at nine-under 207
TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona shot a three-under par 285 total and finished in third place Friday at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in Wahiawa, Hawaii.
Only one Arizona golfer shot better than par in Friday’s final round as the Wildcats posted a three-round total of 838 (-26). The 54-hole total was easily Arizona lowest of the season, topping the previous low by 17 strokes. UA finished in third place, five strokes behind tournament-winner New Mexico. UNLV (835) placed second, while Brigham Young (839) and Auburn (841) rounded out the top five places in the field of 22 teams.
Leading the way for Arizona individually was sophomore Henry Liaw. Liaw shot an even-par 72 and finished in a tie for ninth place with a 207 (-9) total. Senior Nathan Lashley also shot an even-par 72 and finished a tie for 17th place. UNLV’s Ryan Moore captured individual medalist honors with a 22-under 196 total.
Freshman Travis Esway carded UA’s only sub-par round of the day, a three-under 69, to place in a tie for 19th at 211 (-5). Sophomores Josh Esler and Nathan Tyler finished tied for 23rd and 33rd, respectively after final rounds of 72 and 74.
Also competing for the Wildcats was sophomore Mark Lamb, who participated as an individual. Lamb tied for 28th place at three-under 213 after shooting a two-under 70 on Friday.
The 54-hole John A. Burns Intercollegiate concluded Friday at Leilehua Golf Course, a par 72, 6,917-yard layout. The Wildcats will next be in action, March 18-20, at the Hall of Fame Invitational in Houston, Texas..
