TUCSON - University of Arizona Wildcat women's basketball will open the season Nov. 2 with an exhibition game against Grand Canyon. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at McKale Center.

In preparation for the start of the season, the squad will be broken down into a four-part preview by class. Third-year head coach Niya Butts will rely on the leadership of three outstanding seniors in Ify Ibekwe, Soana Lucet and Amanda Pierson.

Ibekwe is a graduate of Narbonne High School and a native of Carson, Calif. In 2009-10, she was chosen to the All-Pac-10 team for the second-straight season while also being chosen the Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year by the league's media members. She was named to the Pac-10 All-Defensive Team for the second-straight season after leading the Wildcats and finishing fourth in the Pac-10 with 68 steals. Ibekwe became the program's single-season record holder for rebounds with 352, besting the previous mark of 339 set in 2004. Her career rebounding average of 10.5 is also the tops in Arizona history while she also holds the top two single-season rebounding averages. She led Pac-10 in rebounding with 11.4 rebounds per game, good for ninth in the NCAA.

Lucet transferred to Arizona from the College of Southern Idaho prior to the 2009-10 season. She is a native of Noumea, New Caledonia and a graduate of Lapevouse High School. In 2009-10, she made an immediate impact on the Arizona team, starting all 31 games of the season while finishing third on the team with 12.9 points per game. Lucet finished second on the squad with 6.7 rebounds while shooting 45.6 percent from the field and tallied in double figures in 19 games and recorded four double-doubles.

Pierson transferred to Arizona from Seward County C.C. prior to the 2009-10 season. She is a native of Munden, Kan. and graduated from Belleville High School. Last season, she was a key reserve for the Wildcats in her first season with the team, appearing in 30 contests while making two starts. She tallied 65 points and 55 rebounds while shooting .500 from the field in 10.9 minutes per game. Pierson finished tied for second on the team with 13 blocked shots.
