TUCSON, Ariz. - The Arizona volleyball team has been picked to finish third in the Pacific-10 Conference in a preseason vote of the league’s 10 head coaches. The Wildcats, who return five starters from last year’s squad, received 67 points in the poll, one shy of third place.

Defending Pac-10 champion Washington was picked to repeat as conference champion, receiving eight first-place votes and 88 points in the poll. Defending national champion Stanford was second with two first-place votes and 83 points, followed by Southern California (68) in third and Arizona (67) in fourth place. UCLA (63) was fifth, followed by California (53). Rounding out the poll were Arizona State (40), Oregon State (36), Oregon (26) and Washington State (18).

The coaches have correctly picked the Pac-10 champion in nine of the previous 16 polls. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team.

Arizona is one of six teams from the Pac-10 ranked nationally in the CSTV/AVCA preseason poll. The Pac-10 is the only conference nationwide with five or more teams ranked in the Top 25.
