WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.--Arizona remained in position to qualify for the NCAA Championships as it moved into seventh place Friday at the NCAA Women's Golf East Regional tournament. The Wildcats posted a team total of 4-over-par 288 in Friday's second round and are in seventh place at 23-over-par 591 for the tournament.

Duke remained in the lead as it posted the best team score of the tournament with a second-round 2-over-par 286. The Blue Devils are at 6-over par with one round remaining. Vanderbilt trails Duke by nine strokes at 15-over-par 593. Georgia, North Carolina and Auburn round out the top five. North Carolina's Meaghan Francella holds the individual lead as she is at 4-under-par 138 after 36 holes.

Leading for the way for Arizona in Friday's round was freshman Cassandra Kirkland, who scorched the course with a second-round 68. Kirkland is one of only eight golfers in the field of 108 to post a score in the 60s. Her three-under par performance on Friday moved her into a tie for 13th place at 4-over-par 146, just eight strokes off the lead.

Joining Kirkland in 13th place is classmate Erica Blasberg. Top-rated in the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index, Blasberg posted her second straight round of 2-over-par 73. The freshman from Corona, Calif., is in search of her seventh consecutive top-10 finish.

Senior Laura Myerscough played the second round at even par, carding a 71 in Friday's second round. She is tied for 27th at 7-over-par 149. Senior Anne Lee shot 5-over-par 76 to position herself in 37th place. Sophomore Miriam Kraschinski completes the Arizona lineup as she is tied for 72nd place at 156.

The top eight teams and two individuals not on qualifying teams earn bids to the NCAA Championships, held later this month at Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind. Arizona has qualified for the NCAA Championships eight consecutive years and in 15 of the last 16 years.

The tournament's final round gets underway at 7:30 a.m. EDT Saturday. The Wildcats will begin play from the No. 10 tee starting at 12:30 p.m. EDT.
