TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The 24th-ranked University of Arizona women’s soccer team (5-3-2) lost to No. 12 Brigham Young (10-0-1), 2-1, in the final non-conference match of the regular season.

Cougar midfielder Jessica Aquino put BYU on the scoreboard at 33:25 with an unassisted goal. Arizona posted three shots in the first half, while BYU had eight. The Cougars held the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Five minutes into the second half, the Wildcats had three shots, two on goal, within a minute, but were unable to score.

Midway through the second half, forward Bobbi Tillotson added to the Cougar lead with an unassisted goal at 76:29. Wildcat senior forward Mallory Miller responded immediately with a goal at 76:36.

BYU held of the Wildcat attack and walked away with the 2-1 victory, while holding on to its undefeated season.

Head Coach Dan Tobias discussed the Wildcats’ third loss of the season.

“I feel like we definitely had our chances today,” Tobias explained. “We didn’t give up much in and around our goal. There’s a reason BYU is undefeated. They took advantage of the few chances they did have.”

The Wildcats will begin Pacific-10 Conference play next weekend.

“We are excited about starting Pac-10 play at home,” Tobias said. “We played a very strong non-conference schedule. You have to do that when you are playing in what many believe is the toughest conference in the nation.”

Arizona will take on Oregon at home on Friday, Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Murphey Stadium.
