TUCSON, Ariz. - University of Arizona women's golfer Christina Monteiro was selected to the Pacific-10 Conference's All-Academic team for men's golf, the league announced Tuesday.
Monteiro, a senior from Las Vegas, Nev., competed in six events and ranked eighth on the squad with an 80.82 stroke average. A marketing major with a 3.49 grade point average, she earned a top-15 finish in the season's first event, the NCAA Fall Preview, where she posted a second-round 70, her low low-round of the season. Monteiro also participated in UA's homecoming festivities as a nominee for homecoming queen.
Teammate Cristina Baena was also recognized by the conference office. Baena, a junior from Pereria, Colombia, earned All-Academic honorable mention honors. She finished the year ranked third on the team with a 75.70 stroke average and three top-10 finishes. Her best finish was a runner-up effort at the Comcast/Dick McGuire Invitational, where she carded a three-round 219 total (E).
The Wildcats finished the 2000-01 campaign ranked No. 2 nationally in the final College Golf Foundation/MasterCard poll. UA won six team tournaments and collected seven individual medalist honors.
