For the second time in as many days, Arizona volleyball sophomore Tiffany Owens was named player of the week, this time for the entire nation.
Owen was named the Sports Imports/ AVCA Division I National Player of the Week for her efforts in the Wildcats two wins over the Oregon schools this past weekend, the American Volleyball Coaches Association announced Tuesday afternoon.
The San Bernardino, Calif. native helped the Wildcats capture their first two-game conference sweep since 2006 when she combined for 35 kills and a .400 hitting percentage for the weekend.
In the 3-1 win over then No. 8 Oregon, Owens hit .383 with 22 kills, eight digs and three blocks. She then followed that performance with 13 kills and 17 digs in the 3-0 win over Oregon State. That was her eighth double-double of the year.
Owens is the fifth Wildcat to earn the weekly, national honor and first since Kristina Baum did so in 2005.
