TEMPE, Ariz. (Dec. 30) - Arizona's road woes continued on Sunday, as the Wildcats fell to rival Arizona State, 87-64, in Tempe. It was the Cats' worst loss to the Sun Devils since 1981.

With eight turnovers and nine missed shots in their first 20 possessions of the game, the Wildcats found themselves down by seven (14-7) midway through the first half. Arizona cut the lead down to one three times, then ASU scored nine unanswered points to take a 10-point (28-18) lead at 6:19. The two teams traded buckets through the remainder of the half, and the Sun Devils held an 11-point (41-30) lead at the break.

ASU pushed its lead to 19 (60-41) with 11:17 left in the game, but the Wildcats made an 11-2 surge to chop the deficit to only 10 (62-52) at 9:04. The Sun Devils stopped the Wildcat run with a three-pointer just seconds later, and Arizona never recovered as ASU out-scored the Cats, 22-12, down the stretch to claim its third straight win over the UA.

Freshman Dee-Dee Wheeler led Arizona with 17 points, five rebounds, five assists and a trio of steals. Junior wing Krista Warren added 14 points and five rebounds, while senior forward Elizabeth Pickney had 13 points and a team-high nine rebounds. Sophomore guard Aimee Grzyb contributed nine points, as did senior center LaKeisha Taylor.

The loss sends Arizona to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in Pac-10 play, while Arizona State improves to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in league action.
