Esler top Wildcat at five-over 145

               

TUCSON, Ariz. ?- The University of Arizona men’s golf team finished the day 25 strokes over par and in a tie for seventh place at the U.S. Intercollegiate in Palo Alto, Calif.

 

Arizona tallied rounds of 17-over 297 and eight-over 288 en route to a 36-hole total of 585 (+25), which put the team in a four-way tie for seventh place.  The Wildcats managed just two rounds at par or better on the day as the squad trails tournament-leader USC by 23 strokes heading into tomorrow’s final round.  Fresno State (572), UCLA (575), San Diego State (579), and Oregon and San Jose State (584) round out the top five places.

 

Sophomore Josh Esler led the Wildcats on Saturday, as the Wauconda, Ill., native tallied a five-over 145 total.  Freshman Travis Esway and senior Kipp Riehle are the two other UA player who currently reside in the top 30, as both are tied for 30th place at 147 (+7).  USC’s Bradley Shaw leads the field with a four-under 136 total.

 

Also competing for the Wildcats is senior Nathan Lashley, who is tied for 63rd place at 152 (+12), and sophomore Henry Liaw, who is tied for 77th place at 154 (+14).

 

The 54-hole U.S. Intercollegiate concludes Sunday at Stanford Golf Course, a par 70, 6,742-yard layout.
