TUCSON - Freshman Manon Gidali, a member of the University of Arizona Wildcat women's golf team, has been named the Pac-12 Women's Golfer of the Month for the month of February, it was announced by the league office on Wednesday.
In her first collegiate tournament, she won the Wildcat Invitational with rounds of 67, 66 and 71 for a three-round total of 204 (-12). Her rounds of 66 and 67 rank tied for No. 2 and tied for No. 6, respectively, all-time at Arizona. Gidali's three day total of 204 (-12) is a new school record over 54 holes, replacing Lorena Ochoa's previous best of 206 (-10) from Trysting Tree Golf Club (Corvallis, Ore.) in 2001.
She tied for first (with teammate Isabelle Boineau) at the UNLV Invitational, carding scores of 71, 76 and 71 for a two-day total of 218 (+2). On the season, she has a stroke average of 70.33 with two wins and five of six rounds played at or below par.
Gidali has paced the Arizona team to wins at the Wildcat Invitational and the UNLV Invitational. The Wildcats won their home event by 12 strokes and the Las Vegas event by 19 strokes. At the Wildcat Invitational, she was part of the team score with rounds of 285, 274 and 292 for a total of 851 (-13). UA's three-round total is a school record over 54 holes, replacing the previous best of 854 (-10), set by the 1998-99 squad at Randolph North Course, in Tucson.
The Cats will play next at the Battle of Rancho Bernardo, March 18-20.
