Arizona Head Coach Sean Miller
"There was definitely a big change for us from the first game, especially from Jesse Perry and Kyryl Natyazhko. They tried hard to get the rebound and really showed a great effort. We rebounded a lot better tonight, and that was a key factor into the result."
"On the positive side, we really challenged ourselves by playing by playing these quality Division II teams. They both did well last season, and they're going to win a lot of games this season. They execute, are well coached, and these two opponents made us better. Obviously we have a low starting point, and a long way to go, but we know a lot more about our team now than we did two weeks ago."
"In order to be successful, we have to be good at team defense, rebounding, and a lot of guys need to step up and fill some big roles. The guys who want bigger roles are going to have to step up and get it done. We may not play nine or ten players like we did last season. We might play eight guys who have bigger roles and play a lot more minutes. Just because you have Arizona on your jersey doesn't mean I'm going to put you in the game. If the older players want a bigger role, then they're going to have to deal with the pressure and execute."
"Defense is the key to winning, and I'm grateful that Humboldt State played some two-three zone because we need to learn it. It's November first, and I would have loved to play this team in three or four days, but instead they challenged us and gave us a lot of difficult looks. We don't have our zone offense set yet, and it's going to be something we have to be ready for when the season starts."
Arizona Player Quotes
Junior Forward Solomon Hill
On comparing this game from the last game:
"This game was a lot faster and this team pushed the game more, we need to get better on defense. Tonight we took this game more seriously and we put ourselves in a good position before halftime. We learned from the first team we played (Seattle Pacific) and we need to take a note from them."
Junior Center Kyryl Natyazhko
"In the last game Jesse and I only made a few rebounds but tonight we really stepped up and we did much better."
"Tonight we made a great team effort, and we got a lot of points because we worked together which also gave us more confidence."
Senior Forward Jesse Perry
On tonight's performance:
"We need better preparation for the game, but we came through tonight and everybody got a feel for the game. We were more prepared for this game then for the last."
"We have four freshmen so everyone that came back is trying to become a leader. We are all going to have growing pains. The last game put us in a better mindset for this game, and both games that we have played so far will help us in the long run."
