TUCSON - At the NCAA Baseball Regional Championships in Tucson, the University of Louisville battled the 107 degree heat and a powerful New Mexico State baseball squad and opened the postseason with a 3-2 victory in game one of the tournament. Cardinal Pitcher Justin Amlung gave up a first-inning run but settled in to throw six innings, allowing only one earned run as third-seeded Louisville (40-25) earned a spot in the winners bracket.
Second-seeded New Mexico State had several opportunities to score with Bryan Karraker going 2-4, and catcher Zac Fisher had both RBI for the Aggies (35-23). New Mexico State will have to battle through the loser's bracket and their pitching will be taxed as the Aggies used six different pitchers in the opening game.
Louisville advances to face the Big 12 Tournament Champion Missouri and Pac-12 Co-Champion Arizona.
