Sophomore goalkeeper Chelsea McIntyre has been named the Soccer Times National Player of the Week, the organization announced on Thursday.
The first-year starter made 11 saves to cap off a successful weekend for Arizona in which she posted a pair of shutouts and the Wildcats won twice. The most dramatic triumph came Sunday when UA held Hawaii scoreless for nearly 97 minutes before prevailing 1-0. McIntyre made 11 saves, three of them in sudden victory, before freshman Guanna DeSaverio scored the winner in overtime to give UA the title in its Four Points Sheraton Cats Classic for the third time in five years.
On Friday, McIntyre made five stops in a 1-0 decision over Gonzaga. Arizona is off to a 4-2 start. McIntyre has played every minute in goal, recording three shutouts and a 0.96 goals-against average.
McIntryre played in only one game as a freshman.
