WALNUT CREEK, Calif. -- Arizona junior catcher Stacie Chambers was named the Pac-10 Player of the Week for Feb. 17-23, Commissioner Tom Hansen announced today.
Chambers, a native of Glendale, Ariz., was an offensive force for Arizona, batting a combined .706, while driving in 17 runs, as she helped the eleventh-ranked Wildcats finish the weekend a perfect 6-0. Chambers recorded 12 hits in 17 at bats, including four home runs, one for a grand slam, and a double to rack up a mammoth 1.471 slugging percentage.
In Arizona's third game of the weekend, against Utah, the junior racked up six RBI, including three alone on a home run in the third inning. Two games later for the Wildcats, Chambers again recorded half a dozen RBI, earning the bulk on a grand slam in the second. After the weekend, Chambers now leads the league in RBI, with 30 on the season.
This is Chambers' first Pac-10 Player of the week honor and the 122nd all-time for the Wildcats.
For the second consecutive week, Washington's Danielle Lawrie was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Week after extending her scoreless inning streak to 52.1 innings.
