Tucson, Ariz. ?- The Arizona women’s gymnastics team held their first intra-squad scrimmage of the preseason on Monday, Dec. 6, 2004.
The Wildcats rotated through two events, the vault and beam, and were judged on their performances according to NCAA competition regulations on each event.
“We started out on vault and in all honesty, the vaults that we performed were all performed well,” Head Coach Bill Ryden said. “Monica Bisordi and Danielle Hicks had very nice vaults while Aubrey Taylor and Erin Muirhead really went all out to maximize the potential of their 9.9 start value vaults.”
The Wildcats posted a team score of 49.225 on the vault. Katie Johnson led the Wildcats with a score of 9.9 while Bisordi and Muirhead each earned scores of 9.85 respectively.
On the beam, the Wildcats were slightly more impressive. The Wildcats posted a team score of 49.4, boosted by a score of 9.925 from the freshman Hicks. Seniors Bisordi and Johnson each helped to raise the team total with individual scores of 9.9 respectively.
“I have made claims about the beam team in the past, but I will temper my enthusiasm for right now,” Ryden said. “All I will say is that I am very confident in the strength and depth of the beam squad.”
The Wildcats will hold a similar intra-squad scrimmage for the bars and floor exercise on Friday, Dec. 17. The season opener is on Jan. 7, 2005, in Gainesville, Fla., at the Super Six Challenge.
