M. Golf to Compete in Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate

TUCSON, Ariz. - The University of Arizona Wildcat men's golf team heads to Palm Desert, Calif. to participate in the 2012 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate, a two-day, twenty-four team event on Saturday, February 25 and Sunday, February 26.

The tournament, hosted by Wyoming, will be held at the Classic Club in Palm Desert, a par-72, 7305-yard course that was also host site of the PGA's Bob Hope Chrysler Classic in 2006, 2007, and 2008. The 54 holes will be spread across two days, with a shotgun start of 7:30 a.m. PT. each day. The teams will play the first thirty-six holes on Saturday, and the last 18 on Sunday.

The 24-team field includes Arizona, Wyoming, San Francisco, SMU, UTEP, Texas Tech, Denver, Southern Utah, Colorado, Cal Poly, Texas A&M, Nebraska, Auburn, Santa Clara, UNLV, Hawaii, Iowa State, UC Riverside, Texas-Arlington, Kent State, Saint Mary's, Houston, Baylor, and Idaho.

Arizona's lineup includes juniors Juan Pablo Hernandez and Trent Redfern, sophomores Chris Capo and Erik Oja, and freshman Tucker Wadkins.

Last week, the Wildcats traveled to Oahu, Hawaii to compete in the 36th John A. Burns Intercollegiate. The team finished in tenth place after scoring an 887 (+23) over three rounds. Hernandez led Arizona, finishing in a tie for 31st with a 219 (+3). Wadkins finished three strokes behind, finishing with a 222 (+6) for a tie for 41st.
